Good news for Corvette fans
As the economy slowly recovers, so do Corvette’s fortunes. We’ll find out how good things are getting tomorrow.
General Motors sold 4,293 Corvettes in the January-through-April period, nearly a 22 percentage increase over the same period last year. In April, Vette sales totaled 1,454 cars, nearly a 29 percent increase over April 2010.
But sales are still way off 2006’s hot pace — 36,518 Corvettes were sold that year.
With such weak sales, might GM be having second thoughts about redesigning the Corvette?
No way. Volume may be low, but some cars sticker over $100,000.
GM will make an announcement Wednesday morning that it will invest about $100 million in the Corvette plant, according to a Wall Street Journal report today. The improvements are being made presumably for the next-generation Vette, expected in 2013 or 2104.
Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, will speak at the Bowling Green, Ky., assembly site. GM has not released specifics, but a media advisory calls it a “positive news announcement for the plant and Corvette lovers.”
It looks like the only two-passenger sports car made in America will be available for a long, long time.
